As a Police Firearms Instructor, I advise any one carrying a concealed weapon to carry the ammunition of the local law enforcement agency where they reside. It eliminated one part of the equation in a civil and possible matter when you can justify that if t is good enough for LE, it is good enough for you, as opposed to having to justify "Home Brew Go Faster Ammo."

I use hand loads, but I do not load for faster, as a SASS shooter and RO, I like the slower hollow point in the 45 LC or 45 ACP. I agree that go faster is not better, I will also pick my shot, as I do not want to have to answer questions as to were my rounds went!

Hornady Critical Defense, great round, and no feeding issues. Even with my 1911.

Agree 100% with MSgt C Madd. It's the only round I'll put in my wife's LCP. For some non-logical reason, I try to stay away from any +P rounds.

I've never shot the Critical Defense but I'd be willing to try it. I've never had an issue with the HSTs but different ammo can feel different in a gun so I'll have to give it a shot. If the wife asks, it's for "research".

I like to carry Gold Dot and Critical Defense, both are great rounds but it depends on which one is in stock most of the time for my weapons.

Speer Gold Dot. When I was a cop, I used to carry Hyrdo Shocks +P .45, but after seeing several bullets after they were removed from a guys skull I elected to go to Gold Dot. They had great expansion and retained over 95% of their weight.

Good to know. I think even Federal has moved on from the Hydra Shocks as I haven't seen them stocked anywhere anymore. I read they took what they learned from them and improved on them to come out with the HSTs. I'll have to buy a box of the Gold Dots and test them out as well. Thanks.
