With the new uniform I have decided to go ahead and seek out a coyote "high speed" boot. I live in Indiana with hot, humid summers and probably have a JRTC cycle in my future. I would like a good jungle boot. Everyone who has worn the old green and black ones swears by their comfort. After much reviewing and research, the only true boot in that tradition I can find is the Altama Jungle PX. It appears to be similar to the old jungle boot. I currently have a pair of issued Altamas, and they are fantastic. The PX also has the original Ro-Search Panama sole. I basically want a light, comfortable, fast drying boot. I don't think anyone offers the Saran insoles anymore, but perhaps modern insoles are just as well-drying. Anyone have experience with this boot or have another they would recommend?

I tried to order the exact boots pictured, direct from Altama. They told me they were out of stock with no rts(return to stock) date. I have a pair in tan, LOVE THEM. IF you find a place that has them in coyote, please let me know

I did some research and Altama's parent company filed for bankruptcy, hence the end of Altama. However, I did discover that McRae makes a similar boot, the 8190, in coyote, Panama sole and all. They are 8" as opposed to 10", which I actually prefer, and are reviewed very well. I'm going to give them a shot.

Nike has an authorized boot out that I like. I got it through Patriot Outfitters. Nice thing about that site is they tell you which boots are AR 670-1 compliant. I also live in Indiana.

Although, let me include a huge warning. I am in a brigade staff. These boots have not seen real soldiering, so I cannot attest to their durability there.

If the jungle is authorized for wear, then I would go that route. The ones we have for issue suck. But I have noticed it is the sole. The boot itself looks as if it is sturdy enough. I plan on having mine re soled. Going to put the crape sole on it. I'll have them twek it a little and have down hills added. I did that to a pair of my old green jungles and loved it! Back in the day Hi teks where the thing, great boot. Can't find them anymore.
