What Was Your First Big Purchase After Separating or Retiring?

My first big purchase was a set of vehicle mechanics tools to start a job as a vehicle mechanic in the civilian life.

After I got out of the Navy, I purchased a used car for $19,000.

Honestly, though, my wife (who agrees with me now) and I should have pulled that trigger a long time ago. We would have much more equity than we do right now. We currently pay the same for a mortgage as we were for rent. We got a ridiculous stupidly low rate just before the COVID-19 stay-at-home orders were issued. The money we were (and continue to) paying to have a roof over our heads now goes back into our own pockets as equity, which is always better than going to someone else as their profit.
