What Was Your First Big Purchase After Separating or Retiring?

Paid off my truck. Didn't need that debt hanging over me.

Tuition to Graduate School at University of Colorado.

MY first big purchase was a car. Which got stolen the week after.

I did two things with my Seps pay. I paid off a lot of the bills my ex ran up while I was overseas, and then bought a Stereo. I was having a party and I didn't want to just have a small boom box.

I purchased a new car.

I separated from the Army just as the housing market burst in 2008, so with all of my savings and no job yet, I purchased a house with cash. It took me a few days to get the bank to understand that I wasn't trying to apply for a mortgage. Once they figured out I was wanting to just buy one of their repo homes they moved the paperwork along rather quickly.

Probably my first big purchase was my first wifes wedding ring from the Marine Corps Exchange in KBay Hawaii. I was excited to get married and with no tax and good price it was the best way to go on this wise investment. We now have two wonderful grown sons and are great friends even today.
