I was medically retired and my first big purchase was a 1969 Mercury Cougar. And my 2nd big purchase was a 1970 Mercury Cougar convertible. I may be old enough to retire but those cars make me feel young again.

A trip to backpack through Europe. I visited Amsterdam, Naples, Rome, Florence, and Venice, Italy; Innsbruck Austria, and Munich Germany. It was amazing and started me with a travel bug.

Tuition to college! Although, soon after I was able to utilize my GI Bill. Fast forward to a bachelors and masters degree...I would say it was well worth the funds and service!

My first big purchase/expense after getting out of the army was Graduate School at the University of Colorado. Later, after retiring from my civilian career my first and highest priority purchase was a snow blower. If you live in Colorado you get that.
