What Was Your First Big Purchase After Separating or Retiring?

Retired in June, 2002. In July i bought a house and 3 1/2 acres in Georgia.

My first major purchase was a good used car. I had sold my car to a friend when I got my orders for VN. When I got back in 67 I had no wheels.

A college education. I served during the period of the worst GI bill in history so I graduated with my 4 year nursing with tons of student debt. What irks me is the call for cancelling today's student debt. It wouldn't be cancelled, just transferred to those of us who either paid our own debt or those who never got the opportunity to go to college in the first place.

When I got out I needed something to get me around. A car that says this is the kind of guy that I can trust to take out my daughter. The kind of ride that turns heads and people say, “Now that guy is going somewhere.” I’m talking about a champagne colored 97 Chevy Lumina. It was a government owned vehicle and I even found a handful of live 9mm hollow point rounds in the crack of the backseat. I paid $1200 cash and she lasted me three good years. I even landed my future wife and mother of my two daughters with that car. 15 years this August.
