Hey all. I’m a 12B that will soon be PCSing to Fort Irwin. I’m aware of the lack of things to do off duty and how isolated it is. I am mainly just wanting to know what day to day life will be like in the 11th ACR. If anyone could give me some insight, I would greatly appreciate it!

Back in my younger days at Irwin as a 12B with the 58th CEC, the first week was Prep week. That's where we got our vehicles and equipment ready for the field. Come that Saturday, we rolled out for PREPO (preposition). Next day on Sunday, that's when Force on Force would start. Anywhere from 3-4 days out in the box...sometimes all week. Each platoon 1st-3rd) rotated mission. For example, 1st plt would be on Offense, 2nd plt would be in Defense (setting up the obstacles prior to each battle), and 3rd would be backup. A&O did all the ditches. 3rd week was Recovery, then a 3 day pass. 4th week was Admin week then a 4 day pass. Then Wash/Rinse/Repeat. Of course, this was over 20 years ago.

Depends on your duties. If they keep you busy in spite of the rotational schedule, find a hobby or take up some classes. But if you find yourself trying to fill days and nights in off time stretching days, you might want to take up online gaming.
