I’m prior service at fort Sam reclassing to 68C(lpn) and today at the defac a phase 4 IET soldier cut the line (which was full of prior service guys) to put his tray in the dirty tray area. Someone told him that he needs to go to the back of the line. So he throws his tray down and turns away and as he turns away he tells the prior service guy to STFU. So the guy didn’t hear it but I did and I was so shocked that I didn’t even say anything. Keep in mind prior service isn’t really supposed to interact with the IET soldiers and their Drills were not present. What would you have said or done?

Uh... I give that kid a pat on the back because he has balls and everyone who just got basically run over by the new guy obviously didn't have the sack to confront him. Maybe next time you can be men and soldiers and stand up to the new guys... Side note: sounds like a lot of crying going on.

SGT Joseph Gunderson honestly, if it rubs SGT (Join to see) raw enough that he posts on RP, than he should have fixed it on the spot.

If the kid was an IET soldier, what do you expect? He’s still a trainee in the Army. I don’t expect him to fully act correctly, especially if he’s not held to standards.

That said, as it sounds like you’re in that awkward prior service, quasi retraining status, there wasn’t much you could have done as an E4, above what was done (informing him that cutting the line was unsat). On the other hand, your group could have congregated at the doorway, making his exit a little less possible. And then strongly suggesting that he go get his tray and get back in line.

Every rule has an exception, including the “prior service interacting with IET” rule. Say a Drill Sergeant walked up on the hypothetical doorway block scenario. The conversation might go as follows:
DS: why in the good holy f*ck are you prior service turds talking to my barbarians?
You: Drill Sergeant, please forgive me, but PVT xyz cut the line and told us to go f*ck ourselves. We didn’t see any of his DS’s around, and we felt an on the spot correction was warranted, as that type of behavior does not exemplify any of the Army values.”
DS. Ok, Get out of here. PVT xyz, are you insane? I might actually murder you this week.

Just a possibility, as I’m sure a similar situation will happen again.

SGT (Join to see) - I don't care what anyone's status is in training. We hated the prior service guys in my OSUT platoon. They caught more crap from us brand new guys than almost anyone else. When the inserts in our OSUT platoon acted incorrectly we were just as fast to make corrections to them as well and they were mostly SGTs. The difference was that my OSUT was full of Alpha males who had no problem going to blows if need be. Even the least aggressive of us weren't shy about throwing a punch if we felt someone had made us look weak. I once got into a brawl with a guy in my bay just because we were both in pissy moods and we just needed to beat the crap out of someone. We ended up tethered to one another for two weeks, but we were not the only ones "correcting" people. This whole idea of getting upset and bitching online is just another indicator as to the weakened state of the military these days.

SGT Joseph Gunderson - agreed.

Translation: quickly give him a smack or three.

You are a trainee. Your prior service status really doesn't matter unless you are empowered by the cadre. I liken it to a CSM who goes to Ranger School. In your status, you can only offer advice, if they don't listen, then move on.
