Where is it in Black and White that it states that you are required to have the H8 ASI to operate any Recovery Vehicle? I have read the ADTP and have not found anything that requires the identifier. Any help would be great.

In TACOM MI 11-22 it stated that only H8 trained individuals should operate recovery. How ever DA Pam 750-3 3-10, b says recovery vehicles will be operated by Soldiers who are school trained in recovery operations (ASI H8). AR 750-1 3-10 e recovery vehicle policy states that at least one H8 certified operator will be used in wheel vehicle recovery and 2 for tracked vehicle recovery

You mean ALC as a 91B i suppose? I'm a 91E and our alc doesn't cover that although we are able to now get the ASI since most often we are slotted with service and recovery. Thanks for your info.

ALC does not provide H8 ASI certification. The recovery portion of 91B ALC is a 2-3 day overview for supervisory roles only. This is a common misconception that the schoolhouse usually puts to rest at the beginning of the recovery block. The problem, is that Soldiers (NCOs) still return to their units and claim that they are H8 based off of ALC completion. I can tell you, as an OLD H8 guy, ALC does not provide the full spectrum of knowledge needed to safely conduct recovery operations.

You're welcome. 91B ALC teaches a small amount of recovery operations. Not enough to say you are qualified but just enough to supervise someone who is.

To piggyback where is it in black and white that it says you have to be a 91b to go to H8? the only thing that I can find is that it must be a 91 series mechanic. I am a 91e who ends up on a lot of recovery missions and have asked for the school and i get the same response your not a 91b

Theres a refrence to it in 750-3 tht states "These types of vehicles will be operated by Soldiers who are school trained in recovery operations (H8 ASI)". Once you have attended ALC they'll tell you tht you are a technical expert and you'll get a crash course in recovery. Once you hit ssg your suppose to lose the ASI and it becomes apart our MOS to supervisor recovery operations.

H8 ASI is dropped at SFC when you become 91X. ALC doesn't make you H8 qualified. It only gives you enough knowledge to supervise H8 qualified Soldiers

SFC (Join to see) so my 1SG is a maintenance guy and asked my my ASI fell off my ERB. Told him that S1 does not do that it is automatically done. Where can I reference it stating that H8 is not an ASI for us any more? He was looking at my records for MSG.

It was in a TACAOM SOUM in late 2010 or 2011. I don't have it on hand but I'll look for it when I get in the office.
