When applying to become AGR, do you stay with the same reserve unit or do you automatically get put in another reserve unit somewhere else?

You go to whatever slot you are applying to. AGR is not you being at your unit in your job, just in AD. You apply for an AGR position that has an opening

This is only true in the ARNG, not in the USAR. The USAR application is for the AGR program. If HRC AGR accessions determines you to be a good fit for an opening, you receive a job offer.

The HRC website states that you will PCS from at least 250 miles from your HOR. That said, I've known people who got their first assignment within that 250 miles. Whatever happens, if you get a job offer, accept it. You can go anywhere and do anything for 3 years. Don't try to negotiate a position or location. You'll get more of a selection in all of your follow-on assignments, after you have received your INDEF AGR order.

Even if your unit had an opening, it would be very unlikely for you stay. If USAR, you will go needs of the army and PCS every 3 years, guaranteed. If ARNG, you apply to a specific opening and will not likely move any time soon.

Not guaranteed to PCS every 3 years. If you are in a low density MOS you can be on station for 5 years.
There are also other tricks to stay on station.
I work as an Army Reserve Administrator, deal with AGRs and HRC daily.
