When can I expect to hear back from the Prime Power Schoolhouse (12P) in regards to my packet submission?

My family and I have a lot planned over the next few months, including my wife re-enlisting after being out of service for a few years now. Does anyone have a general timeline am I looking at to hearing back from the schoolhouse about my application packet, based on your experiences?

Hey SGT Maddox,
I remember submitting my packet in October 2016 for the January 31st deadline for the August 2017 Class (002-17) that I am currently in. I didn't hear back from the school until right after the deadline via email from Mrs. Dent who told me that they are reviewing my packet. A few weeks later I was able to do the 1SG interview (I was in Germany at the time). I was told on the phone that he was going to recommend me for enrollment and I finally got my acceptance letter about a month after that, around mid-March 2017. I re-enlisted and was locked in about another month later, around the end of April 2017. Hope this helps ease your anxiety. Do not expect to hear from the schoolhouse about admissions before the deadline you are applying for. Good luck!

Thanks for the response SGT. I couldn't find a deadline for the upcoming classes. I know they are hurting for Soldier's since they had to cancel the January 2018 class this year. According to RETAIN, there are still 26 open slots for the August 2018 class, so maybe I'll arrive before your graduation.
One more additional question:
Electrical seems to be the most challenging ASI, and I have a strong background in mathematics and science, so it's the one that I want. What would you recommend I strive for to better my chances at having that as an option during school?

It's mostly dependent on your scores. And it's all cumulative combining both your first and second phase (Academics and Operators) grades/scores. You also get a wishlist you fill out during operators that the staff reviews. The I-Tech course is probably the most academically challenging one, but that ASI hasn't had a class for the past two graduating courses. Also, as you've heard a thousand times, it all depends on the needs of the Army. A lot of us had aspirations of ASIs and midway through the school (we're in our 7th month in) and now most of us are just taking one step forward at a time and not getting ahead of ourselves. A strong background in mathematics and science will work wonders for you. I would focus on my trig, physics, both mechanical (i.e. fluid dynamics) and electrical engineering basics if you have the time.
The school almost filled the April 2018 course (mostly newly accepted students and then about 6 or 7 recycles from my class).

BTW, all of the 12Ps instructing / mentoring at the school have pretty much said that it doesn't matter what ASI you get, we all become electricians.

I just had the 1SG interview; it seems like it went well, so I hope to see an acceptance letter come through in the next month. I was told the August class will be pretty large since they are combining two classes together.

Sgt Maddox,
It took me about 6 months to get my acceptance letter after the submission of my packet. I submitted my packet August 2017 and recently got my acceptance letter for the August 2018 class. My wife and I were in a very similar situation as you and your wife. Waiting on the result of my packet to see what we needed to do. Ms. Dent was extremely helpful when it came to information. I highly recommend contacting her. She eased my mind during the waiting process on multiple occasions. When did you submit your packet?

I only submitted a month ago. I received an autogenerated email in January that they were looking for Soldiers right as my window was opening up for my second re-enlistment, and I had the packet submitted 20 days later.

I don’t know how many remaining slots there are in the August class. How it was explained to me is on e your packet is submitted it’s put underneath all already submitted packets. The board will go through the packets from top to bottom and once all slots are filled they stop until it’s time to select for the next class. I would call Ms. Dent and see what the current situation looks like for the August class.

Next class isn’t until January 2019. They will hold onto your packet (ask you for up to date info like medical, APFT, etc.). If you PCS, the PPS can’t touch you until a year after you’ve PCSed.
