So I have been Military Police for almost 7 Years now. My battalion held a Spur Ride in 2017 where I earned my silver Spurs. So my question would be, am I authorized to wear said Spurs at formal dining ins. I ask because I am currently attending ALC and just wanted to find out if I can wear them to our dining in? I ask because I cant seem to find any regulation or documentation about who and when can spurs be worn other than CAV units. Thank you and any references would be greatly appreciated. Note to be added, Ive never been attached to a CAV unit.

SGT(P) (Join to see) best way to answer this question is to refer you to 1/2 ACR the oldest CAV unit still in existence today. ( yes I was assigned with them) The Order of the Spur is a very proud and traditional Honor. They are on F/B. usarmygermany.com/Units/ArmoredCav/USAREUR_2ndACR.htm
My Knowledge is that in order to wear your Spurs and Stetson You must be assigned to (working with) and in CAV Territory. Try the link and ask these guys they are the experts. Good Luck.

If you are not assigned to a Cav unit, I would not wear them. You're an MP, so, outside of a Cav unit assignment, you won't be wearing a stetson. Even scouts rarely wear the spurs without the stetson. If you are doing an event outside the unit, I would advise you also not wear the spurs. It just isn't something that you do. There are no real regs covering them, but one usually leaves the spurs and such for Cavalry gatherings. In the case of we Cav guys, we push the rules a little on the stetson, but that's about it.

MPs are doing Spur rides now? Were they assigned to a Cavalry or Reconnaissance (MI Cav?)

EVERYBODY seems to do spur rides in 1st CAV. I was in a Signal battalion and did one. It just seems to be a 1st CAV thing for esprit de corps for the division.

SSG Laurie Mullen - Thank you. I must have missed that part. And yes - then since he is in a Cav Division so it's okay and well within the traditions of the US Cavalry.
When I was active duty, I was in both 11th and 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiments (old configuration) where the MPs, Artillery, Infantry, ADA, Mechanics, Signal, Anti-Tank, etcf, etc, ... all did the spur rides. They also earned their Gold Spurs in battle and bronze spurs on the East-West German Border, Reforger (stateside to Europe) and Korean DMZ.
