This is when a Navy ship transits the Suez Canal. I was with the Marines and the USS LaMoure County transited the canal in 1980 along with other ships in the Amphibious Ready Group. We were the first US Navy ships to do so since the 1967 wars.

I went through in '79 on the USS Claude V. Ricketts DDG-5 so you guys were not the first since 67 ...

we had a few spooks onboard with listening gear...and then later Iran happen ... so we hung out in the Gulf from Nov 79 to sometime in Jan 80 and then came back through to the Med... but we were not given a Safari to Suez chart thingy lol ...

PO1 Chandler Moulton yeah, we didn’t get one of those Suez thingys either. Just the pleasure of 100+ degrees below the water line and fun in Mombasa Kenya
