I’m an infantry officer transferring to MI after CCC this summer. I’m in a 35 series slot now and have been for a while (over a year) but haven’t officially changed my AOC yet. Do I continue to wear “cross rifles” until I complete CCC, do I change insignia before I arrive at CCC or do I change them at some other point? Let me your thoughts RP family.

It is against regulation to wear branch insignias for which you are not qualified.

I’m tracking all. I guess my question is, will you begin your CG staff duties following your completion of CCC, or have you already begun? The policy states one thing, but let’s face it, if the CG wants all of his staff-dress-right dress...CPT (Join to see)

Sir, I get you. Yes, I began last August but will be on CO-ADOS orders beginning 01 FEB 19. Like you said, I wanna be dress right dress. In all sincerity, the CG is a two star RADM, USN as we are a joint unit so I think he wouldn’t care one way or another as he selected me as an IN officer. However, I’m trying to represent the Army in the best way I know how as I’m the one of three USAR officers assigned to the staff. Again just trying to be administratively pure and within Regs. Thanks again for your insights.

Understand. Well, the best way to represent the Army, is to give the true representation of yourself. I recommend following the reg and sticking with the insignias that you’re qualified and authorized to wear, then following your graduation from MI CCC, dawn your MI insignias and wear them proudly (and legitimately). Unless the regs have changed, you wear brass of choice in MI. My office tent was next to the MI Det tent at LBJ, BMB for 199th Inf Bde. So I spoke with them a lot. They wore branch they were conversant in. OB wore JAG, as he had been a lawyer, II was Engineer, as that what his degree was in. They said if there is not have a branch you are conversant in, you Infantry as anyone could bullshit there was through that. LOL
Perhaps that is why Os not wear branch on fatigues any longer.

I wouldn't wear it until you've changed AOC. Until you are qualified, continue to wear your infantry insignia with pride. You are still in the infantry branch until you are fully qualified. Once everything is complete, then wear the MI insignia.

CPT (Join to see) - While wearing your dress blues I guess. I miss the BDU when you knew instantly who you were meeting. Be proud of your Infantry. MI is important though.

It has to do with whether you are detailed to that branch. Are you currently detailed to the MI branch? If so, you should wear the MI branch insignia. If not, you should wear the IN insignia.
See AR 670-1, 29-9. b. All other commissioned and warrant officers serving on active duty will wear the insignia of their basic branch. When detailed to other branches, commissioned and warrant officers will wear the insignia of the branch to which they are detailed.

CPT (Join to see) Almost the same situation as I was when I switched to the KYARNG. I wore Castles as soon as I transferred. You wore rifles in your Basic Course and where not fully qualified either.

CPT (Join to see) you wear your branch, your detailed branch, or GO staff. If you're not detailed to another branch or on GO staff, sport that IN.

The detailed branch is the one you serve in before the branch you are assigned. Combat Arms branches traditionally are the detailed branch.

Hello!
Similar question. I am Infantry BOLC and CCC complete but recently branch-transferred to Signal and completed Signal CCC.
I’d prefer to keep wearing my Infantry blue on my officer ASUs, but do I have start wearing the orange of Signal? I’m in a branch-immaterial position at Forces Command at Fort Liberty, NC.
Many Thanks!

You are technically not "MOSQ'd" yet sir, therefore you are still infantry branch. I am sure if you wore it for uniformity sake no one would care though. Are you going to an event which will require you be in dress/service uniform? Regardless, I would wait until I completed the course before wearing the branch insignia, even though you may already be in an MI unit (as an example, other MOS's--such as supply/logisitics--do not wear MI branch insignia even though they are in an MI unit).

Also, you won’t wear your MI Regimental Insignia until you graduate from MICCC

Hang onto the infantry branch as long as you are assigned to the IN unit. It is what you are trained for and will put you in better stead with your seniors and peers.
I changed my FA uniform insignia when I went to the MI transition course (noting that at that time not only did BDUs have branch insignia, but everything was sew-on). Given current uniforms, you won’t need anything MI specific for quite some time.

I wouldn't pin on MI branch until your AOC officially changes or your commanding officer orders you to do so (have witnesses). Remember that there isn't anything wrong with being INF Branch. FA 11 & 18 are the only ones that can qualify for the CIB (best of all badges!).

CPT (Join to see) - My apologies for not noticing that you are FA 18. I am surprised that you are being required to leave SF to take up intelligence duties in a joint assignment.

Sir, you were correct I’m not FA 18, I’m FA 11 in an 18 Unit. In short, I’ve made the switch from a 3 letter Federal civilian organization to the USAR with the intent of using my FA 35 type experience. Hence is why I’m in the FA 18 unit and why I’m transitioning from Infantry.

CPT (Join to see) - I have known quite a few members of the "other government agency". I am certain you will do well in MI. I honestly believe that you would truly enjoy an MI position at JSOC. The SF Detachment Officer Course should be available if you expressed a desire to attend.

You change insignia once you receive orders. Or maybe when a GO pins them on you.

Wear those crossed rifles until someone orders you to change.
