When in a crowd, do you find yourself planning for what you would do in an emergency such as if a crazed shooter were to occur?

My wife and I went to mass on Christmas Eve, as we sat there I leaned over and whispered in her ear. What are you thinking about right now? She replied "how much I love being in the company of so many happy people celebrating the same thing, what are you thinking about?" My response was somewhere along the line of, what I would do and where we would go if an emergency such a crazed shooter were to occur here tonight. The result of a lingering military mentality? Probably... Do you do this in large gatherings as well?

I've been told I watch to many things while I'm in a crowd, doesn't mean I'll stop though ever !!

I wonder if this is part human nature? I read most of the comments and it seems the overall answer is yes. Thinking to myself in some small way its pretty sad. Then I turned to my wife and asked her the same question. She had the same answer Yes. She was never in the military. (small sample in know) Maybe we all keep an eye out for an exit or the best plan out at some level.

Well sometimes. The other night my wife and I went to a Wal-Mart near JBLM and as we parked small groups of people came running out of the store. As we got out I watched and listened to the people running out of the store screaming hes got a gun! So we got right back in my truck and started to leave. Nobody was hurt but it did make me think what I would have done if I had been in the store. Needless to say a concealed carry license is in my very near future!

Where I work, every day I think about this. It's my job to ensure the safety of my guests. Tourist that come into our establishment are so clueless about any possible threats that may exist or could possibly happen due to the nature of our location. I always cover different scenarios that are possible and figure out the best and safest course of action to evacuate our guest. Luckily nothing major has happened but we were actually a target back in 2001. The news reported this so I can say it also.

I'm pretty sure the majority with a military or emergency services mindset thinks of this occasionally.
