BMs who are piping someone aboard must do so with their right hand, so salutes are made with the left hand. If you are unable to use the right hand due to injury you can use the left hand, but are not required to render a salute.

Gunny, Also a rifle salute at Right Shoulder Arms (if the USMC manual of arms hasn't changed since 1984)

IMO the answer is never. If you are not able to salute with your right hand you recognize the officer with the greeting of the day.

I know it use to be when you were at right shoulder arms you could, but I don't know why you wouldn't just present arms.

SSG Vernon, IDK for sure without looking it up, but from the gut, wouldn't you just go to Present Guidon"? (I know---"Tankers have bigger GUNS!") Chief G

I know the person who opens the door for the President salutes with his left, but other than that, I'm not sure. It's not something I've personally seen.
