When is it correct to salute with your left hand?

I didn't think that there was any reason to salute with the left hand.. I've never seen or heard of that unless you're a new recruit and make that mistake and get quickly admonished..Lol

There are three examples of left hand salutes: The Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps Drum Major salutes with left hand, palm outward, as they follow the Revolutionary custom in ceremony; Boatswain's Mate when piping a senior officer on-board in the Navy and Coast Guard as the pipe is held in the right hand; Last but not least, any disabled service member or veteran who is unable to salute with their right may salute with their left.

As a Marine you never salute with the left hand. We were not alowed to carry anything not related to our job of duty in our left hand that would hinder our ability to render a proper and "crisp" salute.
