When searching for reserve slots are you only eligible to request your current Rank

I'm searching for reserve units and there seems to none 25B close to my home of record which is where I plan to go. They have E6 slots close but what is the rule on requesting those positions?

I was informed once or twice that you could be slotted two ranks above and one below your current rank.

I believe that this is still true. It used to be when slotted in a lower billet, you may be expected to find a suitable graded billet within a year (maybe 2). Otherwise, one could be demoted. Again, not sure, but it definitely used to be so.

One thing I found in 1998 when shopping for my final tour was that my Detailer would not put me in an O3 or O5 position despite the One Up/One Down rule.
He said they were short LCDRs because of TERA and he had to fill his O4 billets. In guard and Reserve it's even harder. As I have been told by one of my clients, you can rarely get a promotion unless someone else moves up or out in the Guard. It's further hampered by MOS/NEC/Whatever. So it's a real challenge for folks in the Guard/Reserve looking to move up the food chain...

Since you have the P status, and if that SSG slot is vacant, then you can easily be put into that slot. In my Reserve unit, I have 2 SGTs filling SSG slots and I am a SSG in a SFC slot. Trust me, you will be good to go.
