When should the "dislike/ thumb down" function be used and should the community rules be changed requiring an explaination for using it?

The dislike function is a rarely used function on RallyPoint. Veterans are not easily offended and are often accepting of the difference in opinions of others. However, occasionally a dislike is warranted and occasionally it is not. When should a dislike be used, should the rules change to require an explanation, and should there be a way to request a repeal on a "dislike" to the community admin?

If you want to downvote something, I think it should require a comment to accompany it.

It would be nice to get an explanation once in a while. Hate seeing a down vote just because you don't agree. But if the response is very derogatory it may deserve the down vote.

If someone is really derogatory and disrespectful in their response then more likely they deserve that down vote.

Personally I've never used a thumbs down. Just figure folks have their opinions. But they can be a useful tool. But I don't think you should necessarily down vote just because you don't agree.

ENS (Join to see) - Retaliatory down voting is not allowed. Unfortunatly we've had to suspend members in the past for habitually doing this with specific members.
