When transferring from National Guard to active Army, would I still keep rank and any awards given by the Army National Guard?

Hello everyone. I am currently a split op. I graduated Basic Training August 31st 2017, and am still awaiting my AIT ship date. I am looking to put in a conditional release from National Guard - Active Duty Army via a DD368. I was wondering: how I may be able to start this process still being in RSP, if it would be best to start the process after I graduate AIT, and if it was possible to start the process while still in RSP.
I am going to Fort Sill Oklahoma for 13F AIT, and am wanting to go active as a 13F. Would I still keep rank, and any awards given by the Army National Guard?

Awards - yes, except any state awards. Rank - as a PFC, probably. If you want to go active its worth it even if you have to take an admin bust. You will make it back pretty quick.

Curious why he would not keep State awards, except, of course, State Unit Awards, that he was not in unit when earned. He cannot wear State awards on a Federal Uniform, but he still has them.

99% your unit won't touch a DD368 until you have at least 3 years in the guard. Even after the 3 years, odds are slim. I have given out many 368s and have yet to see one come back, and I have been in recruiting 2 years now. We even have a national guard recruiter who can't get one signed by the NGB

Talk with your local Army Recruiter. They will have a good idea what your State is doing. Also those releases take some time. As far as going 13F active it will depend on if there are any slots. At your rank I wouldn't think that would be problem. The real problem come after AIT.
You will get the same ribbons when graduating BCT and AIT that the regular army gets. Nothing special for being national guard. As far as doing a conditional release, good luck. You signed up with the guard, they’ve already spent money on you to go to basic and soon for ait, they will not approve a conditional release for active duty because you have not fulfilled a significant amount of time on your contract as well as the NC National Guard is hurting for soldiers right now. Try serving half your contract before trying to do anything, or at the very least talk to your leadership at RSP. They will have more answers. I did one month at RSP in Kansas before shipping off so that whole process I don’t know much about.

I appreciate the good advice! I have already set up a appointment with a active duty recruiter to talk about it. I am going to talk to him, and my National Guard recruiter I think, and figure out what I can do.

You don't have an MOS yet, so the Active Component will not be willing to consider your transfer. Once you have graduated 13F, been released from your RSP Det and you report to your unit, you can apply for an inter-service transfer. In addition to the DD 368, you will likely need to submit a Memorandum for Record: a memo explaining how you both want to pursue career advancement in Active Duty as well as being unable to secure decent full-time employment where you live.
And your odds of success are a function of what your state's current strength is on 13F1O as well as the Active Component's strength on 13F1O. If your state is low or Active Duty is high, you are not going to get it.
But you can still keep applying up to your ETS date. After you ETS, you can just get an Active Duty recruiter put you in, though that will be in an MOS that Active Duty needs that month.

I joined the NC National guard in October of 2016, shipped for basic January 2017. Completely ait in July and had my first drill at my unit in August. I knew during my time and basic and AIT that active duty was what I wanted. But I didn't have any other options. I made some bad choices the following semester (Fall 2017) and lost my educational benefits. I had to stop going to school because i couldnt afford it. I looked into Going active duty in January of 2018 and started working construction and Mcdonalds, 70 hours a week. In my letter addressed to my chain of command, requesting my conditional release, I explained what my hardship was, even though it was entirely my own , went through the process of getting the paperwork done (which is extremely

Sorry, accidentally hit send.....
Extremely tedious). I got all of the paperwork over the following weeks and eventually sent my packet (with my company commander's approval) up the chain of command March 6th. I continued to work my ass off and completely accepted my fate and that I would just have to fix my mistakes through hardwork and willpower. Well, yesterday, it came back approved, and i already have my trip up to meps to process in and sign my contract scheduled for next Tuesday. So, it is unlikely, tedious, and difficult. But if your chain of command is understanding enough, you can get approved. Good luck

A lot of it depends on your State, for instance in Montana, you must be in the unit atleast 1 year after you are job qualified. You will normally keeps your rank but honestly it can take some time to get released. Going Active Duty from National Guard can be a very slow process depending on the State.

Your commander would have to approve your release. I can almost guarantee an RSP CO won't do it cuz that will hurt their mission for that FY. And once you get to your unit, that CO probably won't release you because it may hurt his readiness numbers. It's all a numbers game.

State awards can only be worn while attached to the Guard. As for keeping your current rank it would depend on the Army's needs. But more then likely the answer is yes.
