Never. Too much info for a resume. However, if you think a potential employer might want to look at code you've written, providing a link on your resume may be helpful.

Hard to argue that. Would it somewhat differ depending on the type of job and type of contributions I make ?

SGT (Join to see) - it would. If you were going for a development job putting code based in whatever language that job predominantly uses would be best.
If you were going for a reverse engineering job maybe you'd take code from Malware and just add comments explaining what sections/lines do.

If you are applying for a coding position then always provide a link to at least some of your code... I care more about seeing the code you've written than knowing where or even if you went to college.

When would it be beneficial to provide my Github profile on my resume?

Hi there! From what I have seen in last couple of years, if you want people to see your work, put a link on your LinkedIn and provide the link on your resume when you are applying to tech jobs.

Having a personal website is great, but only if it looks complete, and is easy to navigate.

Hope this helps!

No problem. In answer to your question, I've only just recently started actually using RP, although I've been a member for a while. My primary objective is to help servicemembers transition successfully and to provide leadership and guidance to those still serving by sharing my own experiences. Most of the stuff I see in the Microsoft topic is either derisive commentary about Microsoft technologies or around technology I am not knowledgeable about, neither of which I consider a valuable expenditure of my time. I would rather help people than argue semantics around tech I most probably have a bias towards. That being said, if a question or share comes up that may benefit from my input, I would be happy to do so.

SGT (Join to see) - "derisive" (READ: Linux fanboys, especially you, just looking for reasons to hate MS)

SGT (Join to see) Inquiring to see what your military occupational title "Signal Support System Specialist' might translate into civilian terms. This goes back to the suggestions to correlate civilian and military terms and titles. I realize that what you show here on RP is not the same as what you put in yr resume, but am curious how you address this potential issue in your experience. It seems that making the connection for employers between what you did and can do to meet their needs and job requirements is a big potential problem and issue for SMs seeking employment in the pvt sector. Thanks for your insights..

I simply add bullets that show my versatility during my AD years - computers, radios, and EWO. However, my resume needs work. I'll probably ask RP members to make suggestions throughout the next few months as I get closer to graduation.

Wish I could be of more help, but am too old for resume writing and am computer illiterate never having seen a personal or even a business computer until around 1990. The companies had mainframes for complex business functions, payroll, personnel system controls, etc, but nothing at the desktop level for anyone. Sounds like you know where you're headed. Keep RP posted..

I haven't done anything in github yet. I've forked duckduckgo and am planning to start submitting bug reports for the Creative Commons Wordpress plugin. My contributions chart is empty - https://github.com/JtLively

I would link your profile to your resume, not actually try to include it. You might want to highlight pertinent skills, but you need to have a personal web page. Yeah, i Know, I should talk - mine is still "under construction" but at least it's there.
