Where and when did you attend Basic/boot camp, and have you ever been back there?

Would be an interesting thing to see not only the locations, but a generational perspective on how changes to those locations may be for each and if it even exists anymore. Also have you ever returned to the location either as a duty station or just to see what is was like for memories and changes that may have taken place. I will lead off, Ft McClellan, AL: D10-1983. I did OSUT there so I started in '83 and finished AIT in '84 I went back in 1992 for another school, but haven't been back since it shuttered it's doors to AIT in '99, have been to Leonardwood for few other schools and checked out their facilities, big difference to what we had at McClellan back in the day though. Would love to go back to McClellan today and see what the base looks like and what bldgs. still exist or training areas are there.

As an Army medic I did BT at Fort Benning, GA. E Co 258, "Hells Kitchen" on sand hill. I am glad I did it as it was a huge accomplishment at the age of 25. Do I miss it, hell no! GA is the last thing on my mind. LOL

SSgt Larry Olson. LOL, those Drill Sergeants would eat Chef Ramsey for an appetizer and spit him out.

Col (Join to see) - Yeah but he would have KP straight. Like Sgt. Hacker on Gomer Pyle. (Mess Sergeant)

Hump those hills and then come talk about being a man, Benning Boys.
I'd go back in a heartbeat.

2008 Co. F 2/54 Sand Hill, Ft. Benning GA. I love the chance to go to Benning whenever I get it. For basic, Airborne, Jumpmaster and soon to be Pathfinder, it is like home.

MAJ Keith Young A part of us! You know, that is exactly it. Part of something while your whole life seemed disparate and detached. +1,000

I would go back to Newport, RI (as a commissioned officer... not as a candidate) in a heartbeat. Even though I was there in the dead of winter, I loved it.

I was at Fort Jackson, and NO, I don't miss it. Spent a couple of weeks with the FTC before I got assigned to a regular training unit. Some of the drill sergeants were funny to me, though...

PFC Zanie Young Yeah but one day your opinion may be different and that comes with time and perhaps because we look to simpler times.

Ft McClellan, AL 1984
Company E 11th MP Bn
I have not returned. It's my understanding that it's been turned over to the City of Anniston for their use.
I know that my old training company is no longer. I called some one several years ago to find out what ever became of my training company. I spoke with a SFC who said "Sir that was a long time ago and I'm not sure what became of them."
Am I really that old?

Boot Camp (Navy) in Orlando, FL, in 1981. I have been back many times and although the Navy base is gone now I enjoy walking through what is now known as "Bluejacket Park". If I listen closely I can still hearing the sounds...
I went through Army Basic at Fort Sill and my son went through Basic there as well. He's now stationed there so I've been back many times. I like to ride through the BT area just for kicks.

Fort Sill... 1980 crazy weather my drill sergeant was mentally unstable... Didn't matter where I was he dropped me when ever he saw me... I owed him push ups when I left basic...lol Must say he made push ups very easy for me in the end... I maxed every PT push ups on every PT test I ever took. Oh if your wondering i maxed sit ups and did well on the 2 mile average PT score 281...
