Where can 12Cs be stationed? Are there a lot of women in this MOS? Is there a chance of going to Japan?

I am currently a 12C. I am stationed in Ft. Bliss in a BEB ( Brigade Engineer Battalion). We have a type of bridge that you do no learn in AIT. If you get stationed in a BEB like Bliss, which my understanding is that all Infantry Battalions have them, you will NOT do your bridging job. I crosstrained as a 12N (horizontal engeneer) and deployed as a 12B (Combat Engeneer). All we did was route clearance. There is only 3 of us 12C in this Battalion, and we are all males. If you really want to do your job as a 12C there is only like 3 bases that are bridging battalions, one of them being Ft. Leonarwood. If you have another option, don't choose it, there is room for promotion or "career progression" because the qualifications are easy to obtain, but you won't come out with any skulls if you ever decide to get out.
I am reclassing, I used this MOS to get my foot in the door.
Good luck, let me know if you have any more questions.

There are fewer Bridge companies in the Army than other Engineer MOS from my understanding, I currently teach with a former Bridge Company Commander. I'd say there are more women in the MOS than other Engineering formations, I believe closer to 25% is what I've heard.
My teaching partner is on leave this week, but I can ask for some details if there is more you'd like to know or if a 12C doesn't pop up on here and give you the most up to date info.

I did some research and talked to my partner here at Dartmouth ROTC. CPT Lawrence Cable , I think you were looking at Rand's "DATA ANALYSIS: SUMMARY OF REPRESENTATION OF WOMEN IN THE SERVICES", which is based on Beckett and Chien, 2002 data. I think if you took a look at more recent Rand studies, https://www.rand.org/content/dam/rand/pubs/monographs/2012/RAND_MG1175.pdf you'll see even by 2012 female MOS strength was up to 16%
From there I was speaking to someone who has left command of a bridge company in the last 24 months, who suggest that MOS wide 16% may still be accurate, but at actual bridge companies it tends closer to 20-25%, as female Soldiers are less often individually assigned to BCTs.

2LT (Join to see) - That kind of confuses me a bit. If they don't deploy to a BEB, where are they putting them? I did a quick look and it's not apparent who owns the Multi Role Bridging Companies, are they a Corp asset now that they have stripped the float bridge Company off of the Divisional Engineer Battalions and they didn't replace the AVLB's in the Divisional companies either?

CPT Lawrence Cable - They fall under a BEB, the company is part of an engineer battalion, a river crossing is a BN, if not BDE effort. Some of the MOS are assigned to smaller bridge sections in Infantry and Armor BCTs, which are less clear on the org charts. At least a up until a couple years ago, it was more common for male soldiers to be assigned to these roles, supporting units that were at the time all male. It is possible that there has been some shift in the past two years, but given the spend of force distribution in the Army, probably not overly fast.
Even if the numbers are 16% with no higher concentration in the companies at current, I expect the trend will continue to be higher female density in the MOS over time, 5%-16% from 2002-2012, 2012 to current one might expect to be 20% as I've anecdotally been told.

2LT (Join to see) - But under this new BCT concept, the Brigade gets an Engineer Battalion, but it only has two line companies and I don't see a bridge company on the TO&E. Under the old Division organization, an Divisional Engineer Battalion had four line companies, a bridging company (float bridge) and the HHC. even after they pushed the Battalion down to a maneuver Brigade, the Organization didn't change, but it has now under the BCT concept. Are all the bridging assets going back to the Echelon Above Brigade Engineers, which wasn't a term when I was still active reserve? From what I can find, that seems to be the concept, let the next level commander control the allocation of all but the 12B Engineers.

This is what it looks like for EABs: 502nd MRBC (Fort Knox), 74th MRBC (Fort Hood), 50th MRBC (Fort Leonard Wood), 814th MRBC (Korea). BEBs tend to have a bridging section as well, but I don't know much about how those work, because I was in an MRBC when I was enlisted.
