RE4 from coast guard, I want more than anything to get back into service. I got a dui while on leave and got discharged for it. The charges were dropped after I was discharged, the discharge was honorable with RE4 and JKQ discharge code. I have a great paying job now (thanks to my training in the service) but I still feel an obligation to serve. I’m ready to leave it behind to join a sister service, Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, any branch just to feel the purpose I remember. I am determined to get back in. I would like any help from people with similar experiences or anyone who might have some insight. I’m much more mature now than I was when I was kicked out and I think I would do the country proud if they let me back in, please respond, any opinion will be appreciated. Also if anyone knows a recruiter who is willing to listen and help, there is no limit to where I will travel. Can you help me?

Some guard units will process that waiver. I knew a guy who had it done. He was a marine and had a dui years ago. You might have to travel to a different state from the one you live in to do it though.

Respectfully, you had your chance, and you committed one of the handful of offenses that are almost nearly and always a career killer in this day and age.
When we’re young, we’re making decisions that will impact the rest of our lives, and for the first few years of adulthood, we barely know we’re even making decisions at all. You chose poorly, and now, one road will likely be closed off to you, permanently.
There are other ways to serve. State defense Forces. Volunteer at the USO. Etc. there are avenues to service outside of the military.
