MAJ Milton Gray Contact the US Army Readiness Center, formerly US Army Safety Center. Request the accident report. It’s a class A so they’ll have it. May have to do a FOIA request

Edit: former Scorpion Team 13C says between 1982 and 1986, An OC was shot in the neck with a .50. Can't find a press release. LA Times has religiously reported NTC helicopter training deaths but this was a massive black hole in searches.

Try contacting the unit that Major was in to see if they maintain archives that far back. Contact the FT Irwin CID/MP station to see if they still have documentation. Contact FT Irwin garrison command to see if they have documentation. Damn sure there was an investigation. Therefore, someone on FT Irwin still have archived documents on that investigation somewhere.

The FT Irwin Safety Office, might. I'd bet on the The Army readiness center
