I am currently 17, and a junior in high school. I turn 18 in June. I am really looking to enlist into the Army. I am looking that the field artillery MOS's. I am trying to get as much information I can before making a decision. Any information is helpful.

I was field artillery for many years. The artillery is comprised of several different mos's that all work together. The main mos's are the cannoneers, Fire direction control (FDC) your FO's. You have several support mos's as well, but they are not dedicated field artillery mos's. What is your specific interest?

Mason McCarty You have tagged the maintainer MOSs for Artillery. Understand the ammunition MOSs are 89 series, they handle all the receipt, issue, accountability, and distribution of ammunition, with the largest by tonnage being Field Artillery munitions (projectiles), charges, primers, and fuzes.

13A is the Commissioned Officer MOS, you need to go through a commissioning program to branch Artillery. The Warrant MOSs are selected from among the FA enlisted MOSs. 13Z are the Senior NCO Artillerymen. As SFC (Join to see) says, the 13 series are the Artillery MOSs

As identified earlier the GoArmy site, is a good place to start. Review other specialties as well. Field Artillery is honorable and challenging, it has a very broad array of jobs that are very physically demanding. If after reviewing other specialties you land on the FA, then come back and ask for specifics in the many MOS’s within the FA. You can also go offline with folks from that field. Good luck!

What are you doing with artillery? Are u a Gunner or a maintainer? If ur a Gunner your MOS would be a 13 series of ur a maintainer your MOS would be a 91 series

Im currently a 91P artillery mechanic and its very rewarding if you like to work on big heavy things. Long hours though since every M109A6 is a pacing item which means if it goes down (gets too broken) someone way higher up than you finds out and askes questions.

You should look into the Air Defense Branch. Better jobs on the outside.

As far as life goes, be prepared to be in the field alot. If you like camping, you wont after being artillery.

You will get strong, possibly have your hearing impacted(i dont think mine have been, other than having tinnitus if its dead silent)

There's nothing like shooting a howitzer, even better when you can see the impact area. I will say they seem to be working on some cool stuff for artillery you should google the Hawkeye Howitzer.

I think the worst thing about Towed Artillery is when you have to do survivability moves, where you move from one place to another, getting the camouflage nets up and down quickly is an energy drainer.

This is a 13B perspective, but FDC does nets too, I think everything I wrote is applicable to them as well.

You can always reach out to a recruiter. If you find one who is willing to actually help you make an informed decision, they can provide you with a lot of that information. I see others listed Goarmy.com. That is also a pretty solid source.

Good luck!
