Dupont and Steilacoom are both nice and close as well. It is also nice not dealing with the I-5 or 512 traffic. There are a lot of nice areas further out.

Go down to Lacey or out to Pulallup Little bit of a drive but better living. Stay out of Lakewood and Tacoma .

Agree. My Chief lived out there, born and raised in the area, and I chose Lacey. Although Lacey kept me more in the city which kept the family a little happier, Chief was able to take back roads off post and avoid that horrible commute. I only took I5 for one exit (119 to 116) and I spent as much as an hour and a half to make that 12.5 miles home. Your choice.

I second the Steilacoom option. Much better than DuPont.

Except for the slightly higher cost, going north is also an option. The Federal Way area maybe. It would save you some time in traffic on I5 since you'd be going opposite the direction of most people. Stay out of Fife though.

Tacoma is one of those cities that has both good and bad. North Tacoma is the nice part. The northwest area near Ruston. Ruston is also a pretty nice little city. University Place is a decent area as well, but it will have some rough spots.

I know a lot of people who live in the Laceyh, Olympia, Yelm areas. Prices are getting a lot higher these days.

Lacey, Steilacoom, Yelm, or Olympia. Your bah will be pretty decent to cover those areas.

I highly recommend Steilacoom. My wife and I had an Apartment off of Rigney Road that had an amazing view of The Sound. It was a great place to relax after long days on Lewis. Here is the link to the Complex we lived in. http://www.sunsetgardens-apts.com/

Not when we lived there. There was also a noise ordinance there, which we loved. It was always quit after 10. You may want to look into renting a house in the area. It is sometimes a better price and gives you that more upscale privacy.
