I was a Marine reservist assigned to Alpha Battery, 1/14 in Aurora, CO. I was also a full-time undergraduate (junior) at the University of Northern Colorado, double majoring in history & philosophy. Because those tasks weren't enough, I had a pair of part-time jobs as a Supplemental Instruction Leader with the university and a retail clothing sales job.

Man ya'll have good stories and memories, since I was in college at the time and had never been north of VA, I can honestly say the effect of what was happening was not present for a few days. I remember classes being cancelled and my buddies and I trying to watch TV deciding to start a drinking game where when someone said Twin Towers or WTC we would do a shot. It was a bad day to say the least. I am actually embarrassed now by my actions because at the time New York and the military were not in my vocabulary.

SSG Scott S.: the fact that you're embarrassed now by college boy drinking games regarding 9/11 shows how you've matured since then. Since I moved to NYC in 2011, I've seen how deeply 9/11 affected the community -- and continues to affect it today!

I separated from the Air Force in 1978. On 9-11-2001 I was living in the Vail, Colorado area programming two music formats on a satellite music network. Our combined formats covered about 45 radio affiliates around the country. As soon as I saw the planes hit the buildings on TV that September morning our entire network went to an all-news mode for several days. I liken the entire time to probably what it was when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941.

I was on the flight line in VFA 204 arming Aircraft for the days training missions. After the attack on the towers I spent the morning calling weapons department trying to procure Ammo and weapons for the A/C.

I was stationed in Germany. We had got back from kosovo. I was standing in lin at the shoppett at schinfurt (ledward barracks); I was watching the news on the small television when I seen the caption at the bottom of the screen. It read: AMERICA UNDER ATTACK. It seemed as if my ncoic was watching the same thing at the same time because my phone rang before I could leave the shoppett. We were on lock down for two days. It was a crazy time in my life. The army would never be the same.

I was a civilian working overseas for a charter company taking some interior designers around the Spanish Rivera. We had to go into a local bar to find out what was going on. When we entered all of the patrons looked at us with the painful acknowledgement that America would change forever.
