I think this is a good thread for those we are trying to get to join can see the substance of some things we discuss between us as current and former military, soft spoken as well as informational and mentoring types of postings.

I was going to a police check on a prospective recruit while on recruiting duty in Wisconsin. I got a call from my 1SG to go back to the RS and turn the TV on. We had no idea phow much our lives changed after that fateful day.

I was stationed at Fort Drum but was currently at JRTC (Fort Polk) conducting a field training exercise.  I remember a civilian driving his POV into the middle of the camp opening all the doors to his vehicle, turning up his radio as far as he could, as we all surrounded his vehicle and listened in on what was taking place in New York. We all where in disbelief as we surrounded the vehicle we all joined hands and hoped for the best (a very powerful moment).  The command automatically put the FTX in a PauseX so we all could get back to main post to a phone to call back to New York to see if our families where okay.  I very scary moment for all.

Were you in the box as part of the 10th Mountain AWE at JRTC? I was there for bits and pieces of that.

This was my third week of BRM AT Ft Benning. Our DS halted operations to pull us off the range and set us up in the bleachers. They told us what happened, then said for all you privates that joined for the college money "you're all F*****d. You're about to actually earn it". Then sent us back out to the range. I shot expert that day.

I was a SPC at Fort Meade, MD. I remember some one saying that one of the towers was hit. Many of us went an watched the news when we saw the towers fall. Shortly later we were all told to leave the building and go home. That was a .. day I will never forget.

I was a Drill Sergeant at Ft. Sill, OK had Soldiers gettting ready to step off to training. Realized I was the DS ready to go, walked into the training room to see everyone watching TV, asked what the hell, we should be at training. Then watched as the second plan crashed into the tower. We had to roll a TV out for all the trainies to watch and than let them try and contact families that livied or worked in New York.

The one thing that happened the Soldiers motiavation to really learn and train went sky high.

Respond to original question…I was in day 3 of an AEE (annual External Evaluation) of my unit and although it happened on a Tuesday, we didnt leave the field until that Friday. To further show my age, we had to roll our sleeves down and prepare for around the clock patrol. Ft. Sill, OK 1/17 FA (Diamond Brigade, Copperhead Medic)
