I was a Drill Sergeant at Fort Knox E Co 1-46 Inf with a brand new cycle at equipment issue when it happened. We didn't really know had bad it was until we saw the news on the television when we got back.

I was a Senior in high school, I walked into study hall for seniors as the reports came in about the first plane. We watched the news for a while longer and saw the second plane hit. Classes were in session the rest of the day but with no schedule. Left after school to talk with the Marines. Shipped out July 2002.

I was in the my sixth grade homeroom. When I came to school, our teacher Ms. Davenport was watching her mini tv on the corner of her desk, gasping, her hands over her mouth. I didn't understand what was going on, seeking out answers from whispers in the hallway with my classmates. I went home and watched the burning towers over and over again, trying to understand why. I enlisted 6 years later.

I was in high school in Algebra I when it happened. Saw the tower burning on the TV and then I walked to my English class and when I got there is when the second plane hit the tower. After that my teacher turned off the TV and told us all to pray for the people in the Twin towers, it was one of the reasons why I joined up 3 years later.

I had just gotten home from the night shift at Robins AFB, where I was the E/E supervisor. Turned the lights off, closed the blinds, and had been sleep for what seemed like only a few minutes when I got a call from work. I was thinking we had missed something in our shift turnover, but the day shift supervisor told me to turn on the television. When I asked what channel, he said "it doesn't matter," and I immediately knew something was wrong. After watching a few minutes of the coverage, including the second tower being hit, I told my counterpart I was on the way back in. He mentioned that I should bring my mobility bag, as we would likely be on the move shortly. Definitely a day that I will never forget.
