I was working for the NY Army National Guard Counterdrug Program. Myself and fellow members of the team were in a training event on how to work more efficiently with youth on the Drug Demand Reduction side of the program. Within hours of the towers falling, we were up at the US/Canada border performing cargo and vehicle inspections side by side with US Customs for three weeks.

I think its safe to say that everyone can recall with extreme clarity what they were doing on Sept. 11 2001.  I remember I was just arriving late to 7th grade math class. I walked in and found it odd my teacher didn't say anything sarcastic about my tardiness. She didn't acknowledge me at all for that matter. I walk to my desk and sit down.  I look around and find it even stranger that the tv is on and everyone was watching it. I never notice we had a tv in the classroom. First thing I saw was one of the towers and smoke rising from the planes impact.  Never Forget...

I was in my 5th Grade class when it happened.  I got home from school that day, heard a huge plane flying over my house and looked outside.  It was Air Force One with F-16's on its wings.  I decided then that I wanted to be a fighter pilot.  Then I heard Lt. Heather Penney's story, and no one was gonna change my mind.

I was Security Forces and had PCS'd in to Guam from Korea just 10 days prior. I had just put away the newly issued kit I had just put together. I turned on the radio as I was going to bed and heard something wild going on and turned on CNN just in time to see the second plane hit. I immediately grabbed my gear and begged a ride from the other Security Forces members in the dorm parking lot. I tried to get a weapon from the armory to stand post, but I was so new, I hadn't been assigned a flight or been added to the arming rosters yet.

I was stationed in Portland, Maine. I was over in Supply getting a medical TONO for someone going to Walter Reed, someone came out and said a plane went into the World Trade Center, I thought to myself I will watch the news later. I went back to my desk and someone came into he office and said a second plane crashed into the World Trade Center. I thought "what is going on" just then I looked out the window and saw a concrete block was being brought up to the gate and the Gunner's Mates had there M-16's in there hands following behind

I was a captain, serving in Boise, Idaho as an active duty advisor to the 116th Cav Brigade, ID Army National Guard. We were in Post Falls, ID on a week long training conference and being on Pacific time were conducting unit PT downtown at a park starting at 0600. I heard something on the radio when I drove to PT about a plane hitting a building in NYC, but not until after PT, at 0700, did I hear more and of course when I returned to my hotel, my roommate and I quickly turned on the TV.

What makes this day most memorable is that I was married on 11 September 1999, so when I called my wife back home in Boise, she initiated our conversation with a very pleasant, "Happy Anniversary," which I of course repeated back to her before I told her to turn on the TV!

We split that Tuesday between trying to conduct our training conference and watching the news. We cut short our trip, and my battle buddy and I drove back to Boise on Wednesday, then figured out what we had to do in our advising role with the IDANG and their Noble Eagle mission in addition to their other missions.
