I wasn't in, however, I was volunteering as a medic in the hospital on base for the past 6 months. It was one of the 2 days in 2 years I skipped college class because something just felt off. I turned on the TV and didn't go anywhere that day.

I had just finished my first weekend Battle Assembly in which I had just returned to the military. I was at work with a customer at the front counter and I saw a replay of the first plane hitting the towers. The customer saw my face and we were in shock. The boss came in from the shop and said something and I pointed at the TV as the second plane hit. All day long everytime the phone rang I thought it was the call. I will never forget that day. That is engrained into my memory as other events in history are in my parents memories. I was proud I had already returned to the military. Had I not up to that point it would have been an early lunch and probably a late lunch.

Just finishing up my shift and cleaning up my mess from going through our mobilty gear at MHAFB ID. I was assigned to the 34th BS. Two days later I lived at the squadron packing gear and loading pallets headed downrange. We went from training and everyday ops to full blown wartime mission. We were the first bomber unit in theater dropping ordinance. Loved watching everything come together into a well formed machine.

I was a young Security Forces E5 SSgt on leave at home getting ready to start terminal with just under 10 years time in service.  I went back to work, deployed multiple times and am currently planning my retirement ceremony now.

I was long out of the military, but worked for the State of California DOT, Caltrans.  We were alerted to potential targets of importance, such as the state Capitol, LA and SF buildings, or the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges.  I also worked in the California veteran affairs building and we were told to telework for two days as it was across from the Capitol.

Made me want to re-enlist, but I was already too old.

I was 8 years old but I remember it clearly! I got up for school and my mom seen it on the computer that one of the towers was struck by a plane. We went to my grandparent to watch the news and a few min later. I watched as the second plane hit the tower live and watched the news till almost midnight. When they said it was a terrorist attack I knew then at 8 years old I was going to join the army!
