Which books would you recommend for a new officer?

Sun Tzu's "The Art of War"

I reckon that would depend upon which service the new officer is entering.

Sun Tze, Von Clausewitz, Mao se Tung, B.H. Liddell Hart, Sir Lawrence Freedman. are prime authors on strategy. Your Commander hopefully will have a read list for your guidance as well.
