Since many of us have the opportunity to travel the world and visit historic battlefields, which sites would you say have been the most memorable for you? For me, it has to be Belleau Wood with a good Marine buddy of mine, and the site where the 3rd Infantry Division adopted the nickname, ''Rock of the Marne'' in Mezy, France.

It's hard to say which is most memorable out of the sites I've visited. Gettysburg was my first, and if forced to pick one probably the most memorable for me, but The Arizona memorial at Pearl Harbor, and Arlington National Cemetery, as well as the Alamo are also forever engrained in my memory. Any site that makes us reflect on the sacrifices made by other veterans is memorable to me.

Gettysburg for sure, took a bucket list trip with a very dear friend. We arrived at opening and were able to get a tour guide that was excellent. We were able to get to the Union line before the mass of humanity arrived and the whole experience was humbling. A visit to Pearl Harbor is right up there with the one to Gettysburg.

The Sicily-Rome American cemetery outside the small town of Nettuno, Italy. 7861 Americans buried there and 3085 MIA. As I walked the mall from the reflecting pool at the entrance to the memorial in the rear, where the names of the MIA's are chiseled into the marble walls, I noticed mostly Christian crosses and the occasional Star of David. Then, to the right, was one that caught my attention and I stepped over to read it. There was no name, no serial number, no unit, only this inscription: Here Rests In Honored Glory A Comrade In Arms Known But To God. It is a humbling experience.

Little Round Top, Trophy Point & and the Main Cadet Chapel at West Point, and Arlington National Cemetary at the stones of friends, battle buddies, and brothers.

Actually, the site that affected me the most was not in the continental U.S. or any U.S. territory. It was the Peace Park in Nagasaki, Japan. It is haunting that so many people died in just an instant. An elderly woman was weeping. It was too much.

Arlington, Gettysburg, Lookout Mountain, but I'm wondering if the Governor of Virginia wants Arlington on that list of Civil War Monuments he wants removed from his state.

Normandy. The countryside has not changed much since 1944. The foxhole where Gen. Gavin had his CP is still there.
