Since many of us have the opportunity to travel the world and visit historic battlefields, which sites would you say have been the most memorable for you? For me, it has to be Belleau Wood with a good Marine buddy of mine, and the site where the 3rd Infantry Division adopted the nickname, ''Rock of the Marne'' in Mezy, France.

By far, accompanying 100 Iwo Jima survivors back to the island and standing on Mount Suribachi.

I had two sites that I enjoyed, One was the site where the signed the peace talks of the Korean War and the other one was the site of the Custer's last stand. The way those markers stretched out forever was an awesome site.

I have been to many of the sites mentioned. Where I am currently is what I remember to think about. In Hue, Vietnam with my wife’s family. We spend time here every year. Since I have read the book Hue 1968, I have a new appreciation for the Marines who fought here. I ride my bicycle all over town, and those streets were scenes of fierce fighting. Now the Vietnamese get to exercise some of those freedoms we fought for, which they may not realize.

For me it has to be Iwo Jima. Walking those hallowed grounds and being able to see the challenges the Marines faced while taking the island was surreal.

My favorite was Bastogne. Every year in December they reenact the battle of the bulge. The whole town gets into it. They have locals dressed up in US military uniforms, they have jump displays, and even bring out surviving members of Easy Co. if you ever want to feel the appreciation from a grateful nation put this experience on your list.

The American military cemeteries that I have visited in Europe leave a lasting impression. Gettysburg, especially Little Round Top and the Devils Den have to be in the top 3. The Tomb of the Unknowns hits me hardest of all. I think that is because it represents those who, in all of America's Wars from Saratoga to Baghdad, put everything on the line to defend our nation and the principles on which it was founded. That small space stands for all of those whose lives were sacrificed for the United States of America.
