I'm looking to go either 15p/q or 35f/s or 25u. How likely do you think I'd be deployed with whichever reserve unit I'm with while I'm in college? As in, how needed are these jobs?

No true telling honestly. Good rule of thumb is to expect to be deployed regardless of the MOS.

I would not try and game this. Pick something you’re interested in and could do well with. Look at units close to your school/home.

No I mean I am genuinely interested in these, I just wanna know my chances. But it's clear it just depends on the unit from what people are saying.

PVT (Join to see) - I think LTC MacKay is saying that it's hard to know which unit will deploy where and when. For one thing, who knows what will make headlines between now and then (which can then drive deployments). From my perspective, if you have to deploy, you have to deploy. That's okay. I wish I'd been able to participate in the post-9/11 stuff. I didn't get that opportunity.

PVT (Join to see) - it really depends on the unit. Your unit could be on orders, then get pulled from the mission. Another unit could drop the ball on the 10 yard line and out of the blue you guys are next. As Carl Von Clausewitz would say fog, friction and chance.

To piggy back on what SSG Livingston mentioned in his post, while it does depend on the deployment cycle it will also depend on the OpTempo of your unit that you join. If you go 35 series and don't want to deploy I would suggest not joining an intelligence command structure, specifically the MIRC because they have MOBs come out every year and often times the units cannot fill them organically so they get other Soldiers to augment their mission (usually on a voluntary basis). Also, depends on the policy of the government at the time. With their being an intention of troop draw down in certain parts that could play a factor. At the end of the day, the only ones that could tell you the likelihood of deploying with a unit is the folks at that unit. It isn't always necessarily dependent on your MOS.

Which MOS is most likely to deploy, 15P/Q or 35F/S or 25U?

Another response to your question will be: It all depends on the Deployment cycle your Reserve is in when you get to it. For example, if they just got back from a deployment, it will have about 5 years before they are available to deploy again. Now, if you join a unit in the year in which is an available to deploy year....and it has a dance scheduled....well, you could very well find yourself on a plane going somewhere. So...in essence, it all depends.

When you're in the reserves, it's less about your MOS and more about which unit you're in. The best way to find out is to look at the deployment cycle for the units close to you. Typically the Reserve component will deploy about every 4 years.

I was a 15P for 20 years, and never deployed to a combat zone.

If I were you I would try 35F. Great skill to have especially after your military career is done

If you are in the army reserves and you become a 15q, expect to deploy.
Currently there are only 2 air traffic control companies in the reserves. We are deployed now and will deploy again in 2-3 years. Ready force X.

25u could end up anywhere 15p there's a chance of deploying every few years

Units deploy not MOSs. It doesn't matter what MOS you pick.
