I'm currently in the TXARNG as a Cable Systems Installer/Maintainer or a 25L which is a dying MOS. It's dead in terms of E-5 promotions and there is even speculation that it will be phased out very soon. I eventually want to either work as a Title 32 military technician, go on ADOS orders, or become an AGR. I often see most full-time positions open for 31B's Military police and 92Y's Supply specialists than most of the other MOS's. Which MOS would be most beneficial to re-class into in terms of promotions and my goal of becoming full-time?

I also was a 25 Lima. While it may be a "dying" MOS in the Army, I assure you the training you receive will be a HUGE asset in the civilian telecom world. I make six figures and all thanks to the US Army Signal Corps. Stay frosty; Stay Signal!

Thank you for your comment, but you must have been Active Duty. It's a little different in the National Guard. We almost never do anything Signal related, much less Lima related during drill weekends. Regardless of the fact that I am in an actual Signal unit. My last interaction with fiber (multimode, singlemode, unicam), CAT5, or any cabling whatsoever was at Ft. Gordon. So there isn't much actual training available besides cross-training. I am mostly interested in advancing my career on the military side which is why I want to re-class. But I do understand the point that you are making. There are a lot of good opportunities for Limas on the civilian sector. Any advice on where one might start?

SSG (Join to see) - Yea. Look into OSP Engineer work or work as a Lineman to get some experience in aerial line construction if you can. Pays great and transitions into other telecom jobs nicely! Good luck brother!

As far as short term and long term benefits, 42A. I see a lot of admin NCO positions open for e4-e5 more so than supply NCO. With that being said, 42A also is probably the easiest transfer of MOS to civilian sector job you can find. From there you can snag a AGR slot for admin work it a few years then take a 6 slot for supply and reclass. It is world's easier to transfer within the AGR program then actually get into it. Go figure.

If you were E5 already I would say 92Y because there is a supply AGR position at almost every unit in the guard if Texas is anything like Pennsylvania but as a 92Y talking from experience I sat as as an E4 for a while in the armor position because most BNs only have one E5 position so you hit a funnel. I reclassified to 13T in my BN to get E5 and then waited another 3 years for a supply sgt position to open up. Honestly the easiest way into the AGR program is prob getting an ADOS position helping a recruiter and then jumping in to a recruiter position when it opens up then you can reclass after that if a 92Y or 31B position opens up but I've seen more people enter AGR through recruiting

SSG (Join to see) Has some great advice, with the exception of RRNCO for Texas RRCMD. They typically do not transfer many recruiters to AGR Unit openings. RRCMD in Texas has a very high op tempo. It's a great position to learn about the inner working of the TXARNG as a whole, but not the best feeder, nor is it a "cake" job.
I'd recommend ADOS orders you can apply to and get a checklist of your AGR packet. You'll need all those vital docs eventually any way. You can check postings here https://tmd.texas.gov/tmd-jobs as well as download the checklist.

Good luck SSG (Join to see) That's a good unit your in, too. Have you ever asked to just re class? If they are phasing out the job in Regular Army, Texas won't be too far behind them. All in all, have a little patience too. Once you hit E-4, more doors will open.
