Which option would you like to see POTUS take with respect to North Korea?

We should really be working China hard right now. If we need to do something, we will need them either to let it go, or at least not open hostilities with us. Their Territory Grab in the Pacific isn't stopping. It has just slid to the back burner. China is the key to any lethal strike of any type. Of course, if Kim goes high and right and strikes us or an ally, the gloves come off, total war.
I am wondering what would happen if we shot down a NorK ICBM, like exactly 12 miles into international airspace.
There is of course the humanitarian implosion and meltdown allied nations would inherit that looms behind almost all courses of action, provided ROK and our allies want to soak up the destruction and death on the front end in Seoul. Couple that with the NorK population, born and raised to hate us and our "running dogs".
There is no real key leader caste that isn't already Nuremberg level of guilty , so they are all in on this level of crazy that lil Kim is perpetuating. Getting all of them is a tall order.

Ok let's say we do that. How do we move combat power there? In secret? Were not talking a couple hundred naked rangers, talking tanks and brads. Everyone saw ODS and OIF. Letting us build combat power is fatal.
Epilogue... PFC (Join to see) , put on your Infantry hat for a minute, OACOK. The maneuver corridors support armor most during the dead of winter when rice patties are frozen solid, otherwise you are limited to a pretty pitiful road/trail network, many of those elevated, silhouetting vehicles.

Regime survival is their COG. Also China values the strategic land buffer between us and them. NK is a strategic level diversion. There is a great article a few years back that detailed why NK going away would favor China, but 5 big reasons they didn't want it to happen.forget the title and author.

LTC Jason Mackay - your right sir. I'm not even saying what I propose is even a nearly perfect plan it requires to many things to go right with almost no thought to a contingency. It's just laying out some of the factors we are dealing with if the mission is to keep friendly casualties in a minimum but even the plan I propose improbable if not impossible given the wide scope of responsibility and margin for error.

How is that different from our policy for the last three decades. The current situation is a result of extortion and pacification on our side?

Every politician has equated appeasement with success..now we see where that has gotten us.
An old proverb says "Don't leave chickens for the wolf, thinking he will leave your children alone. You wake up to find the wolf is now at your back door, looking for bigger chickens...."

Having served in Korea, I'd dread an actual fight in that terrain. I'd fear for the lives of the millions that live in Seoul. But, god, there would be no greater thing than to erase that totalitarian regime from the face of the planet and allow Korea to unify.

SGT Jason Keefer yep. Even if the regime goes down under its own weight, it will be a total sh$t sandwich to deal with.

LTC Jason Mackay - For sure. Germany went into a massive recession when they absorbed East Germany. It would be worse for Korea, considering the level of poverty in North Korea.

PVT James Strait - Very likely. I think Kim isn't quite crazy enough to fire the first shot. And given the consequences involving China, I don't think we will either.

SGT Jason Keefer - that merge transcends many parts of German society. I watched two German LTCs go at it in their office. West German bagging on the East German. This in 2011, twenty years later. Some Easterners want communism back because they have lost out on the deal. Plus the westerners hate carrying them with taxes financially.
Meanwhile on the peninsula....The average northerners will easily get exploited trying to join the 21st century. Then they will lash out. Organized crime will become more brutal. The organized crime up north along the border is tough and virile. If you look at the Inspector Oh detective stories, they are a good window to the North....written by an Intel guy that lives and breathes North Korea.
