There shouldn't be any debt either option. And if you go active duty your making plenty of money to pay off what little you may have spent on school that the army didn't already cover. It's stupid to go ROTC if your not going to try for active. You might as well save the money from those classes and just go OCS after you finish. You should always try for active if your going to commission unless you really don't care for the life and want to focus on a civilian career. Your the first person I've ever heard of that is actually debating the two and aren't just getting stuck NG because of GPA

It depends on what you want to do, what you qualify for and countless other things.

Would you please explain/clarify your question? It's completely unclear what you're wanting to have answered. You should be able to add a narrative underneath your main question to better explain your situation.

That's what I tried to do but i was unable to for some reason. I was going to clarify in a comment. My predicament is that I have a choice. One, if I decide to go National Guard I will get 97% of my college fees paid. On the other hand, I would be graduating as an infantry officer in the national guard. Which I have heard is tuff balancing a day job and being an officer at the same time. Two, try to compete nationally with only a 3.3 GPA for Active duty. And not get contracted at least till sophomore year. And even then not guaranteed a spot in my top three choices. Along with that, I will be in debt.

PFC(P) (Join to see) - What's your top priority, going active duty or minimizing your debt? Sounds like those two priorities are competing against each other, and you can't get active duty without incurring at least some debt. If you're attending a public university, the debt shouldn't be that extreme. If you're attending a private university, it could amount to quite a significant amount. That may be an issue for you to consider. Otherwise, if active duty is your top priority, that (debt) may be the price of earning it.

I went through ROTC, earned a Regular Army commission, and earned my #1 branch choice, and I certainly didn't have a 3.3 GPA. However, I did well in ROTC, and in Advanced Camp, and I was prior enlisted. So, those things certainly helped my case.

PFC(P) (Join to see) - I adjusted the main question. See if you can edit (or add) a narrative clarifying your situation. If you can't, email me the narrative, and I'll get a 4-star admin to add it for you.

The 3.3 gpa is more than enough to get active and infantry assuming you have a 270+ APFT score. I know multiple people with 3.1 GPAs that got active duty infantry just by ADSOing on top of the high APFT score. PFC(P) (Join to see) -
