The last one I would want to lose would be 90% certainty I will not be killed in my sleep.

Air Conditioning and refrigeration would be the first to go. I can make due with fans and wet towels (swamp cooling) and going to market every day.

Next would be indoor plumbing. It'll be just like camping!

Modern medicine is next, I'm fairly healthy, less than 90% certainty that I will not be killed in my sleep makes that by far the worst option.

SSG (Join to see) I hear you on your choices, but I'll take the ability to use teamwork to mitigate the sleep before giving up medicine.

Capt Richard I P. - Since we were giving up greater than 90% certainty of safety... I considered the greater than 1 in 10 chance to being killed in my sleep to be a constant.

SSG (Join to see) My fault for framing it badly, I estimate my odds of needing to wake up to fight or being killed in my sleep in normal times in the states as far below 10%, I'd say at different times in country the odds were much higher, but mitigated with watchbills.

Capt Richard I P. - I looked at the picture and imagined myself living there and what I might have to endure as a civilian with a family. We could organize and protect our neighborhood from direct attacks, however given the terrible odds... it seemed likely that we were also subject to regular attack by indirect fire. With more than 10% of a neighborhood being taken out on a nightly basis, there is no way I would keep my family there.

I'm a Jarhead. Items 1, 2 & 4 are part of the job description. It sure is nice of the Navy to assign their Corpsman over to us though!

In the Civilian world, the list is a lot different. The one thing I would struggle if I lost would be my wife. The next would be my freedoms. The list are all 1st world problems except for medical knowledge. My wife and I chuckle everytime we realize we are complaining about 1st world problems.

SSgt (Join to see) Interesting twist that one of the places my team went without 1, 2 and 4 was at a PB with your name on a map. PB Barrows, Bakwa district, Nimruz province.

Modern medicine knowledge, because the others while nice, aren't essential to survival.
