For me that was not long after we had a piss test done and I was one of the lucky ones that got to leave the Army a sample. I had long forgotten about it when one day right when I got to work my NCOIC said we needed to see the Co. Cmdr.. My NCOIC was joking that I was prob. going to be given an AR-15 for being the only one at my shop that didn't test positive ever on the piss test. I report to the Old Man behind closed doors and all of a sudden he IS reading me and AR-15 for having failed the piss test.
I was SOOOOOOOOOO F***N pissed off all the way back to work I am telling my NCOIC that I am going to sue. I had been coaching at the local elementary school and HS in 4 sports and told him to go ask the Kids, the place we were at never had more than 50 kids in a class even with Jrs. graduating. And that I was going to get out because of this. I didn't do drugs, I didn't even drink. He is telling me to calm down. I said why I didn't do it.

By 2pm that afternoon I was sent back to see the old man, again behind closed doors. This time he was red faced said a couple words and tore up the AR-15 in front of me. I later found out an officer who knew me had a call placed to double check the paperwork on the piss test results. And found out that a guy that had just a week b4 left for a new duty assgn. had a last name spelled very similar to mine. His last name ended in an oe rather than or. And My name was immediately above mine on the test results. And they highlighted the wrong name.

I took Amway Multi Vitamins and their dog use to go off on them most of the time and I would get called up to my room to answer questions and clean up the mess they made and every time told them what they were and to take them and have them tested. They never did and except for that one time never had my name on a failed test.

The post was small and there were a lot of people that were pissed off at me for the outcome. Saying they wish they had someone looking out for them like that. I didn't do drugs, still do not even like taking even perscription drugs. And having had my dad stationed at this same post when he was in and having worked around farm animals for several years growing up and my 1st Degree being in Forestry I knew what to do to be safe in the woods.
Its some of the stupid stuff that can happen in the military that u need help with and someone did that for me.

I have a special diet and the authorities would not let me store any of my own food and I did not have a car. One of my buddies with a car let me store some cans of tuna fish in his car, so I could have something to eat.

While I was deployed I had a great boss, he's even the one who got me on the deployment (I was chomping at the bit to go), helped me get on a team going to Afghanistan instead of Kuwait, and provided support throughout our time in theater. Would love to serve with him again.

I have to show gratitude to Gunny Irvine. He helped me when I got in trouble being new to the Marine Corps. Being naive I got a few articles against me and he spoke up for me to our Captain. Before I left duty he got sick and I lost contact with him. So I would like to Thank him again where ever he is.

I owe my soul to my battle buddy. We were closer than brothers. We were from the same state. We were both injured and rehabbed together. He kept my sanity intact and helped me get better

I cant thank SSG Simon Johnson who took care of us when we were privates. He showed us how to be a compassionate and caring leader. He was firm but fair to all.

Kind of mundane.
When I came back in in 2006 everything was online and computers.
I am/ was not great on them.
But anytime I was on a computer, any lower enlisted was more than willing to help me out.
Thanks to them all

Big shout to my Shipmate on my first ship. When I checked in and told folks I was going to be a Journalist, people laughed. “How’s he doing that on a Minesweeper?”

Ty came over to me and said, “You want to be a Journalist? Ok, you’re going to be one.” We never looked back. He wanted to be a Postal Clerk. We both achieved our goals. It was indeed a turning point.
