Who actually prefers POP3 email configuration over IMAP and why?

I'm going to follow this discussion. The SMTP and POP email configuration on much easier to set up and workdown OK for most single user email accounts just fine. IMAP allows you to share email over multiple accounts, and platforms and is more suited for business and the corporate environment.

IMAP allows you to handle email from multiple locations. With POP all email is pulled to a specified device
