Almost every male member of my family was in the military. It was a way to go because jobs were scarce, and no way to go to college. Matter of fact, I didn’t want to go to college until later. I traveled and saw so many countries in such a short time, you’d have to have Soros money to do the travel I did.

He never knew it, but my late grandfathers, one was a lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during WWII, the other was everyone else's Uncle Milty.
I never told either of them they had a hand in that decision on my part.

Additionally, my paternal grandfather, even though he died when I was still very young, he had been a Seabee in the Pacific theater. Later, after his passing, I had discovered some Navy issue surveyor's gear.
I suppose it's not a gigantic stretch of the imagination to conclude he quite possibly took part in the effort to construct one, if not several, airfields across the Pacific theater.

My future was at stake. Needed money for colege and working in a restaurant was getting me any closer to that goal. Joined the Army to get ahead in life. Worked out just fine. Spent 34yrs 7 months and 12 days in with Active duty, GaNG, and Army reserve time with one deployment.

When I was 17 I was in an accident and broke my neck and back thus spending my senior year in high school with a brace on my neck. In 1969 with a draft number of 63 I reported as ordered and was told that I passed my physical. I went home and seek out the army requiter to have a choice and to CYA. I had 3 choices. I could got to jail, I could go to Canada, I could do my duty and work to save lives. I chose to work to save lives in Vietnam.
