I had uncles who served in the Army, Navy and Air Force. They had great stories. I wanted some of my own.

I was drafted in April 1970, there after I continued for 24 years. My father was in the Navy during WWII and I wanted him to be proud of me, also opportunities and a personal call to duty keep me in the military.

Where I grew up, you either became a farmer or went to a city to work in a factory. I didn’t want either so I joined the Army!

I was originally drafted in March of 1966. After all the testing I was offered 6 months of Hawk Missile, Launcher, Loader School, at Fort Bliss, Tx, if I dropped my 2 year draft and enlisted for 3 years. I took the deal and was discharged from the US Army and enlisted in the Regular Army. Back then we had service a # with a prefix, US ment you were drafted, RA ment you enlisted.
