John F. Kennedy said "Ask not what your country can do for you, but rather as what you can do for your country." Well, I thought about it and decided to become a U.S. Papatrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division.

My Uncles, Father, Grandfather, on dad's side all served from WWI, WWII, and Korea. I guess you could call it a family tradition.

I am oldest of 7, wanted to go to nursing school but parents couldn't afford it, back then to go to nursing school, you didn't have time to hold an outside job. School was hospital based, you lived there. So when the Air Force recruiter came to my high school last half of my senior year and talked to us, a light went on over head When he mentioned the GI Bill. Week after graduation I was sitting in recruiters office, I was ready to sign. BUT back then the double standard was alive. Women had to be 18, until they turned 21, had to have signature of both parents to go in. Took some talking with my Dad to agree to sign. I even volunteered to go to Nam, but the General told me that since I wasn't 21 no they couldn't do that. I am so proud of my Dad who faught in WWII and Called back to duty for Korea. He had 2 purple hearts one with a cluster. But I went to nursing school and worked up until I was 53 and developed back problems that made it almost impossible to be up on my feet 8-12 hours or to even assist with transfers of patient. But I did live my dream.

SP5 Robert Kennedy - I was born and raised in IN, but now call Florida home. Moved here in 94 to be here for my parents. It is home, I can not imagine going back to IN to live, the land locked humidity is so much worse for me than the humidity here. I imagine if I lived inland it would be worse, but I am just 5 mi or less from the Atlantic, and love it. I can stand out in my yard and watch the rocket launches. Just can not think of calling anyplace else home

AiC Sandie Weidner and FA Jackie Schlageter My favorite zip code in USA is 33316... would love to live in Ft. Lauderdale. My youngest sister is in Orlando. I'm envious every time there's a rocket launch. She's a yoga instructor and massage therapist there. A couple of my cousins live in the Villages, sounds cool as hell, but when looking at the lot sizes of the homes there, I'm certain I'd feel a little claustrophobic. I'm married to a stubborn little German, when she utters an order, she never forgets, and about two decades ago she said Florida's not in our future. So for me, the only thing that can "trump" that idea would be a new idea - FROM HER. I've got my fingers crossed, but they've been crossed for almost a decade.

SP5 Robert Kennedy - LOL, I am married to stubborn German also. But he is much older than I am plus memory is faded. He didn't think he would like Florida but admits now that he didn't think he could stand Indiana again. We got used to the now snow and ice. He was an over the road trucker so I was down here 7 years before he came off the road. Secret here is live on the coast. Hurricanes are bad but we get plenty of notice ahead of time to get out of Dodge, if you don't get out, it is your fault. With Tornadoes and earthquakes you get no notice except with Tornado might have a few minutes when you hear that train acomin.

My Uncle, Joe was my influence. He was an Army Officer at one point. When he passed, I visited his home and his wife had the boot camp photo that I sent my Uncle after graduation. I had wrote a letter to my Uncle on back of the boot camp photo and looking back on it 20 years later, I could see the pride that I was sharing with him.
