I was in a situation I didn't see a way up. So I figured the military was an option to move forward with my life.

Nobody influenced me. I felt it was something I needed to do. I didn’t want my parents to have the burden of putting me through college. Plus, I wanted to be part of the workforce immediately and see what life had to offer.

Probably my dad. We didn't discuss it, but i have always been patriotic. I live in a town close to Offut air force base but I did not want to be a flyboy and although several guys from my class went Navy, I hate the water and can barely swim. I would rather be shot at than be on a ship. I had no desire to be a Marine so the Army was a natural choice. A buddy of mine and me talked to the draft board in my hometown (one old lady) and she showed us a roster on which we were to be drafted next month so we both volunteered for the draft. He ended up in Germany and I ended up as an 11 bravo grunt in Viet Nam. I guess it didn't matter much difference if it was the Marines or the Army, we both had the same shitty job. I have no regrets. The VA is helping me now

Who influenced me??
I came to America in 1997 and I had a green card, from Australia, I decided that if I was good enough to get the green card, I would defend this country, so I joined the U.S.Army because I love this country.

A friend from school who had joined a year earlier. I learned alot from him prior to joining the MC and continued to take his advice over the course of the next few years.
