I looked at my bills and looked at my paycheck working at a restaurant and said "F this, I'm going straight to the recruiter. The Navy was the closest one and I drove the 40 miles right after I gave my notice. Best decision I ever made.

My family was a Gold Star family. My father was killed while serving. My ancestors served in every war back to the French Indian Wars. it was tradition.

For me, it wasn't a who, as much as it was a what. I grew up in Wyoming and there were no real possibilities for jobs for me. The Army offered me an opportunity to learn skills.

I myself decided to join the Military after high school. because I wanted to serve my country.

No one individual influenced me. I came from a long line of servicemen. I did break from family tradition by joining the AF. (Four generations of Leahys had served in the Fighting Irish). I never regretted my decision to join the AF. I did a lot of traveling, got married to another airman, and earned my B.S. during the eight years I served.

My Recruiter Gunnery Sgt. Jennsen. He told me exactly what to expect. With no bs.
