Veit Nam. My draft number was 44, so I thought I would have a better chance to get the training I wanted and maybe not go. I ended up in Panama Central America for 2 1/2 years.

My mom got terminal cancer so she couldn't cosign my college loans anymore. That led to me joining the military to complete college. I now have a bachelor's in anthropology and a bachelor's in biochemistry all thanks to the military.

My mother. She saw me heading down a path that was not good for my future. Not drugs or crime just bouncing from job to job state to state looking for something I enjoyed. She knew me better than I knew myself. A Navy recruiter I spoke to before i graduated HS called our house in Ohio looking for me. I was in Arizona laying brick at night (too hot during the day) she said she would have me stop by the office next week. The next thing I know a friend had packed my stuff and handed me a bus ticket she had sent. With a short one way conversation he was dropping me off at the bus station. I arrived in Hamilton, Oh a couple days later and joined the Navy. 24 yrs later I am now retired and working as an engineer. Thanks Mom.
