My mother! No $ for college and all jobs required experience. We were watching "The Girl He Left Behind," about a man who dropped out of college and joined the Army. She said, "That's what you should do!" The next day I did just that. Best decision of my life at the time!

My older brother, Rick, had me spend the summer with him when I was 12 yrs old. He was stationed aboard the USS Tacoma (PG-92) in Little Creek, VA. During what's called a "Dependents' Cruise", I was able to spend the entire day aboard the ship, at sea. From that day on, there was never any doubt in my mind that I WOULD have a career in the Navy.

No one in particular. At the time, I no longer wanted to be a further burden to my grandparents.

My cheerleader coach Mrs. Shannon at Calumet High School was my influencer to join the USN and I'm so glad I listened to her and joined the military.

My step uncle of all people..... his name was Kieth, he had spent calendar years in Folsom prison for things he did and wanted me to go in to make something of myself. I did just that and it’s history.
