My recruiter stopped me and asked if I wanted a job. I needed money so I said sure. Didn't know what I was getting myself into...

My Dad, he was a career NCO in the Army, he served in both WWII & Korea and retired in 1959 after 23 years of service. He gave me a good understanding of military life, both pros & cons.

So, you knew going in. I tried to avoid the draft, but the draft won. Still to this day, those two years are the proudest two years of my life. I admire my veteran brothers and sisters who had a "plan".

I think there a great many of those who originally chose not to join, who got drafted and found that all the stories they'd heard about the military weren't 100% accurate, actually many draftees ended up staying in and making a career out of the military. Like yourself, most who served are proud of their service and will never forget the camaraderie they experience during that time in their lives.

My family as a whole inspired me to join the military. My mom, dad, uncle, and grandfather all served. I wanted to be able to follow in their footsteps and at the same time forge my own path.
